Dear colleague, On April 5th 2009 I received a unanimous endorsement at the Annual General Meeting of Irish Equity for my initiative to establish a National Honours System for professional Interpretive and Performing Artists in Ireland. The endorsement represented a mandate by the membership for the inauguration and establishment of an independent and separate honouring body, to be run along similar lines and equal in parity of esteem, to that of Aosdana.
As with Aosdana this honouring body would involve an Assembly of Excellence embracing participation from among all professional interpretive and performing artists in Ireland. Since April 5th I have initiated correspondence with all appropriate bodies including the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland , Aosdana, the Musicians Unions of Ireland and Northern Ireland, Dance Ireland and Dance Resource Base Belfast and Actors Equity Northern Ireland. At this time I have received support from MUI and Dance Ireland and a warm letter of endorsement from Aosdana. I now propose to set up a working group to investigate and examine this initiative and to avail of the highest standards of advice and support to establish an honouring body.Below is a link to an invitation to all professional Interpretive and Performing Artists in Ireland seeking written expressions of interest to participate in such a working group. Please read the form carefully before committing your expression of interest and return to the below temporary address before Sept 2009.
