“Given the recent attempt by Lane Productions to employ performers in its production of
“The Shawshank Redemption” for no pay and the defence by Ms. Pat Moylan to justify this exploitation, The Actors’ Council, Variety Council and Executive Committee of Irish Equity hereby call for her resignation as Chairperson of the Arts Council. Her continued presence as Chairperson of the Arts Council, does not inspire confidence in the professional community”.

At a joint meeting of the Irish Equity Group Executive Committee, Actors’ Council and Variety
Council, held on Friday 15th May 2009 the following Motion was adopted.
“Given the recent attempt by Lane Productions to employ performers in its production of “The Shawshank Redemption” for no pay and the defence by Ms. Pat Moylan to justify this exploitation, The Actors’ Council, Variety Council and Executive Committee of Irish Equity hereby call for her resignation as Chairperson of the Arts Council. Her continued presence as Chairperson of the Arts Council, does not inspire confidence in the professional community”.
