As you may be aware the Irish Congress of Trade Unions has organised a National Demonstration for Saturday next, 27th
November to protest against the government’s mismanagement of the
economy and to promote the ICTU ‘Better, Fairer Way Campaign’.
As
part of Saturday’s Demonstration members of the Irish Equity Group are
being asked to play a slightly more dramatic role through the wearing of
masks, period costumes (1916) etc.
If
you are available to assist us in this request we would ask you to
assemble under the Equity Banner at Wood Quay at 12 noon on Saturday.

Dear Members,
As you may be aware, FIA (International Federation of Actors of which Irish Equity Group is a member) passed a motion at its last Executive Committee Meeting that no performers from FIA affiliates would accept engagements on "The Hobbit" until such a time as the production entered into collective negotiations with the performers' Union MEAA, of which New Zealand Equity is a Branch.
FIA members have stood in solidarity with New Zealand Equity in the past weeks, instructing members not to accept engagements on "The Hobbit" until the producers agreed to Union contracts for all performers hired for the film.
In recent days, New Zealand Equity has secured improved work conditions and pay for performers in talks with the Screen Production and Development Association of New Zealand (SPADA). As a result, New Zealand Equity has recommended that all international performers' Unions allow members to work on "The Hobbit".
Today the International Federation of Actors (FIA) therefore adopted the following resolution:
"Based on the progress made in talks between New Zealand Equity and SPADA with respect to the engagement of performers in screen production generally in New Zealand, and at the request of New Zealand Equity, the FIA Executive resolves to recommend to all FIA affiliates to immediately lift advice to members not to work on the production "The Hobbit".

PRELIMINARY NOTICE TO MEMBERS RE EQUITY A.G.M.
Dear Member,
As you may be aware each year on Palm Sunday the Irish Equity Group holds its Annual General Meeting.
This year, Palm Sunday falls on the 28th March . Unfortunately however due to a number of issues including the ongoing SIPTU restructuring it has not been possible for us to organise this years AGM on that date.
We expect to be in a position to advise members of an alternative date for this years Annual General Meeting within the next few days.
