Dear colleague, On April 5th 2009 I received a unanimous endorsement at the Annual General Meeting of Irish Equity for my initiative to establish a National Honours System for professional Interpretive and Performing Artists in Ireland. The endorsement represented a mandate by the membership for the inauguration and establishment of an independent and separate honouring body, to be run along similar lines and equal in parity of esteem, to that of Aosdana.

Don't sign contracts that deny you residual payments |

The Irish Equity Group is currently attempting, through negotiation with Screen Producers Ireland, to deal with the issue of "New Exploitation Rights".
Many, if not all of the contracts being issued to actors, contain a clause which grants to the production company any and all rights to all New Exploitation Methods with respect to the products of the artists services.
This Clause has never been agreed between this Union and any Production company or with Screen Producers Ireland on behalf of any Production company.
Pending an agreement with the producers on this issue, Equity calls on all Equity members not to sign any such contracts.

Des and Padraig will attend the annual Euro FIA conference in Warsaw this Thursday 7th and Friday 8th May to meet with representatives from actors unions accross Europe.
